Corning -- Ashley Sutton, of Savona, is getting married Oct. 13, and she was shopping for some wedding ideas Sunday afternoon.
Sutton's fiancé was nowhere to be found as she surveyed flowers, cakes and other necessities during the annual Finger Lakes Platinum Bridal Expo at the Corning Radisson Hotel.
"We're looking for cakes, a photographer and a florist," Sutton said. "I'm here with my maid of honor. (The wedding) is basically my day."
Sutton was among an estimated 200 or so brides, along with their grooms, friends and family members, who crammed into the Radisson for Sunday's event, sponsored by Crystal City Wedding & Party Center.
After nine years at the Clemens Center, the expo moved to a new location this year.
"The Radisson asked if we would move up here to highlight their newly renovated ballroom," said organizer Sonja Harvey.
"We have 45 vendors. We actually had 140 brides preregister, which is more than normal. A lot don't preregister. We have a lot of new vendors."
Among the vendors who took part in Sunday's expo was Kristi Owlett, of Kristi's Kakes in Horseheads, who was pleased with the turnout.
"It's excellent. We needed an event in this (Steuben) county over here," Owlett said. "It's a really beautiful venue. It's a perfect location, great for everybody."
While Sutton wants to call the shots for her wedding, Katie Downing, of Campbell, brought her fiancé, Chris Griffin, of De Kalb Junction, N.Y.
"We're looking for a florist and some entertainment," Griffin said.
"I try to be involved as much as I can. She knows more about this stuff, but we've been doing the whole process together."
